The Canadian WWI Internment Legacy Fund is an endowment that supports projects commemorating and recognizing the experiences of ethnocultural communities affected by internment during the First World War. The Fund continues the work of the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund (CFWWIRF), preserving the legacy of the communities through educational initiatives, archival projects, and public outreach.
1. PROBLEM / TASKS
A modern website was needed to manage and display vast archival resources. An intuitive system for users to search and access materials was also needed. A new a logo was needed that reflected the Fund’s mission and vision. Improved navigation was necessary to cater to a broad audience.
2. OBJECTIVES
Urban Block Media was to design a user-friendly website to organize and showcase news articles, videos, maps, and resources. A searchable database was to be developed to simplify access to historical content, and a new logo was to be created to embody the Fund’s mission and legacy, providing a cohesive and impactful brand identity.
3. SOLUTION
UBM’s approach was to create a visually appealing and functionally robust digital platform that would honor the organization’s historical mission while serving a diverse audience. Our design team provided several logo concepts, working closely with the client to refine the options and select a final version that best represented the organization’s values and legacy. A modern, streamlined design was implemented to ensure users from various demographic groups could easily access and interact with the website. To manage the extensive collection of historical materials, we created a structured, filterable system that allows users to quickly search through thousands of documents, videos, and maps.
4. OUTCOME
The client now has a modern fully functioning website that successfully caters to a wide audience, from academic researchers to members of the public. Key outcomes include: an enhanced user experience, effective branding, and increased engagement.
